Dedicate a Letter

A Sefer Torah has 304,805 letters — and every single one must be whole for the scroll to be kosher. When a scroll is rescued, cracked and faded letters are restored by a sofer, letter by letter. For a dollar, one of those letters can be yours.

Dedicate letters in honor of a simcha, in memory of a loved one (לעילוי נשמת), or simply for the mitzvah. Larger dedications carry old and beautiful customs:

  • $1 — a Letter · one of the 304,805
  • $18 — Chai · eighteen letters, for life
  • $54 — a Pasuk · a full verse
  • $180 — ten Chai · a line of the scroll
  • $540 — a Parsha section · a passage restored in your name

Every dedication is recorded on our Dedication Wall, and dedications of $54 and above receive a certificate suitable for framing.
